Midsummer Celebration 2008
I would venture to say our "Little Later" Midsummer ritual was a success. We had over 35 folks attend with quite a few new faces in the crowd. The kids that came ran and ran until they passed out… we will send the bill to the parents later for wearing the kids out for them.
Keith (Lord Baboon on Stilts… hey, he wrote it) opened the ritual and got into an argument with the ancient spirits. After paying appropriate homage to the spirits with a gift of mead… okay, Kool-Aid, the ritual was able to continue.
Allie did a great job reciting the poem about the All Mother. Her intonations and body language added much to the reading.
And then… the dragon showed up.
He was such a bad little dragon. Moving around the Circle, breathing fire, hissing his bad breath on everybody, dancing pseudo-seductively, and, unfortunately, exposing his naval. But when he decided to hump the high priest's leg all hell broke loose and everyone started hitting him with water balloons and shooting him with water guns. One little girl became so excited when she shot the dragon she proudly exclaimed, "I got him! I got him!"
After learning about how the Circle of the year expands and contracts the Circle was closed and everyone had a great time feasting, talking, and enjoying each other's company. We all celebrated the birthday of one young lady's 4th (I believe) birthday.
We all appreciate the donations of food, help, time and money as well as all the wonderful help to clean up after everything was done. It means a lot to us for the help. So much goes into setting up for the rituals that any help to set up or take down is much appreciated.
Again, this was a fantastic gathering and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
Thank you.
